Dear Sir:

I hereby wish to ask for a postponment of my jury duty. Besides my
regular employment here at Stanford, I have been hired as a temporary
assistant professor at San Jose State University. I was hired to
develop and teach a new graduate course in their mathematics
department. I am currently teaching this course and will be doing so
until the middle of June.

I was hired because the
faculty believed that there was no one presently in their department
who was qualified.
Thus there would be significant hardship placed on
the students of the class -- approximately fourty, some of whom need
the material to receive their Master's degree; and the faculty members
who are attending my course to develop their proficiency would be
seriously set back. Since there is no one who could substitute for me,
their Master's program would suffer.

If you have questions please contact me:
   John Allen
   Computer Science Department
   Artificial Intelligence Labs
   Stanford University
   Stanford, Calif
   497-4971

or the department Chairman,
   Dr Frank Fuller
   Mathematics Department
   San Jose Sate University
   San Jose, Cal 95192
   277-2411

or the faculty member who is learning the material from me:
   Dr Mike Burke
   Mathematics Department
   San Jose Sate University
   San Jose, Cal 95192

I have served on a jury before and found the experience valuable
but at the present time jury duty would present severe hardship.

	yours sincerely
